First Book of Five-voice Madrigals (Maddalena Casulana) – complete

Description

The Primo libro de madrigali a cinque voci (Venice: Gardano, 1583) by Maddalena Casulana was thought to be incomplete, since its Alto partbook was lost from a Polish library in 1544. In October 2021, Laurie Stras located the missing partbook in the Russian State Library in Moscow, and has made the complete edition available for purchase here.

Our first ever printed edition, this book is Canadian-bound with a printed spine, so it can be filed on a shelf but will also lie flat. The book also contains transcriptions and translations of all the texts.
