Back from clausura

Give us a hug, then, and welcome back!

Well, that didn’t quite go to plan. I notice that it has been almost exactly a year since the last update on the Musica Secreta blog, for which I apologise. While both Deborah and I (Laurie) have had lots of things to get on with in the past twelve months, I didn’t realise that time was going by so quickly. It’s almost as if we’ve been shut in clausura and have come back out, blinking, into the late summer light.

So, a quick recap to set up a few more blog posts in the coming days: Deborah has now become the sole artistic director of Brighton Early Music Festival, and I am now a part-time Research Professor of Music at the University of Huddersfield, with more time to devote to Musica Secreta activities. Lucrezia Borgia’s Daughter has been extremely well received in many places, and the music is now being sung my many different ensembles across the world. My book, Women and Music in Sixteenth-Century Ferrara will be published on 27 September 2018; Deborah and I are both speaking at the NEMA/BREMF conference, Vocal Sound and Style, 1450-1650, in Brighton on 20/21 October 2018. And finally, we will be able to celebrate the success of Lucrezia Borgia’s Daughter with a concert in London: we will be appearing in Kings Place’s Venus Unwrapped festival on 16 January 2019.

I’m looking forward to making this a much more lively place to be. It’s so nice to be back!
